The Chinese New Year is based on the lunar calendar. People celebrate Chinese New Year on the first day of the first lunar month. It is on the 23rd January 2012. It is common for people to think that babies who are born on or after Chinese New Year's Day 2012 are Dragon year babies.

However from a Feng Shui perspective, the New Year actually starts on the day of the "Li Chung" (Stand Spring) Festival. Li Chung festival is on the 4th or 5th of Feb of every solar calendar year, and can hence be before or after Chinese New Year (the first day of the lunar calendar). As mentioned, a Baby's horoscope is defined by the day of the Spring Festival, and not by Chinese New Year or Solar calendar.

This year, the "Li Chung" Festival is on Feb 4th, and hence the actual Dragon Year also starts on Feb 4th 5pm (Chinese time). Therefore, for babies who are born on and after the 4th Feb after 5pm, their birth signs are dragon. For babies born between Chinese New Year and 4 Feb, their birth signs are still rabbit.
